One of my biggest challenges in the kitchen every week is not wasting food. It’s something I’m trying to be better at, but it seems life is always getting in the way. I’ll have a very ambitious meal schedule planned every Sunday when we do all of our grocery shopping, and then the following Sunday I’ll do our weekly fridge clean out and see all of the food I didn’t quite get around to cooking. The balsamic beef I made this past Friday almost became another victim of things I meant to cook but didn’t get around to.
This balsamic beef recipe is ridiculously easy to make. If there was one thing that was going to survive my weekly purge, it was going to be the big piece of chuck roast that I bought with this meal in mind. I woke up on Friday, threw it in my slow cooker, mixed up the sauce and my work was done. I wasn’t quite sure what type of meal I was going to use it in yet, but that’s the best part about balsamic beef. The options are endless.
Balsamic beef tacos? Amazing. Sliders? Just great. Piled over mashed cauliflower? Sensational! And balsamic beef dip sandwiches? Well, they may be the best of all. The dipping sauce is a lot more complex tasting than your standard dip sandwich because of the reduced balsamic. The balsamic gives the dipping sauce a sweet and tangy flavor that will have you soaking up every last drop.
This recipe is great for entertaining! It’s perfect for football watching. It’s exciting to come home to after a long day at work! And if you’re only making it for 2, you’ll have leftovers that you can use to create an entirely different meal!
Let’s get started.
Step 1: Crock it. Throw your beef into the crock pot with your sliced shallots.
Step 2: Get saucy. Mix together your beef broth, balsamic vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire, soy sauce, honey, garlic, salt and pepper. Pour over the beef.
Step 3: Take it slow. Cook beef on high for 5 hours or low for 8 hours.
Step 4: Reduce. Remove beef from the crockpot and transfer sauce to a sauce pan. Reduce over medium heat for 10 minutes.
Step 5: Get Shredded. Shred all of the meat. I like to keep some chunks in tact. Taste your meat and season with additional salt to taste. Pour 1/3 cup of the reduced sauce over the meat.
Step 6: Toast. As the beef reduces toast your rolls in your oven or toaster oven. Remove from the toaster oven and add cheese. Toast an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
Step 7: Assemble. Assemble your beef sandwiches. Pile the beef onto the bun and transfer reduced balsamic dipping sauce to a ramekin. If you want these to be spicy, add a couple scoops of giardiniera.

- 1 3-4 pound boneless chuck roast
- 2 shallots sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 3/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

- 1 tablespoon soy sauce or coconut aminos
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 4 cloves garlic chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
For sandwiches
- Sesame Rolls
- Sliced provolone (2 slices per sandwich)
- Giardiniera (optional if you like spice)
Instructions
